INTENSIVE CROATIAN LANGUAGE AND CULTURE COURSES
We offer intensive Croatian language courses at all levels. Classes are held three times per week in blocks of three school hours. Learn Croatian in small groups (5 to 15 participants) with highly qualified and experienced lecturers in a relaxed and encouraging atmosphere!
SUMMER SCHOOL OF CROATIAN LANGUAGE AND CULTURE
Learn Croatian in the heart of Dalmatia every June or July! Our Summer School of Croatian Language and Culture is designed for anyone eager to deepen their knowledge of the Croatian language and culture. We offer small groups, air-conditioned classrooms, as well as trips to museums, galleries, and Croatian islands. Need more reasons to join?
INDIVIDUALISED APPROACH
Each of us has a unique learning style and pace. The work is organised in small groups (5–15 participants), which allows each participant to be approached individually. Emphasis is placed on a conversational approach, ensuring that each participant has enough time for self-expression and improvement of language skills.
TOP-NOTCH EDUCATORS
Our teaching staff consists of highly educated experts who deal with Croatian as a second and foreign language, as well as other aspects of Croatian language and linguistics in general, both on a professional and scientific level. They continuously improve their professional skills, publish professional and scientific works, participate in different projects, domestic and international conferences, and design teaching materials based on the latest trends and scientific knowledge in Croatian as a second and foreign language and education in general.
PARTICIPANTS FROM AROUND THE WORLD
Since the establishment of the Centre for Croatian Studies Abroad (CEHAS) in 2007, we’ve welcomed over 1,500 participants from all over the globe. We promote multiculturalism and interculturality, and our educators are recognised experts in multilingualism and multiculturalism.
FIELD TRIPS
Field trips are an integral part of our programmes. They provide the opportunity to get to know the country whose language you are learning better. Field trips are also an opportunity for direct contact with the language and native speakers and socialising with all other participants of our programs. Museums, galleries, theatre, cinema, and visits to islands and cities enrich and complement your language learning program.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
We extend learning beyond the classroom. We engage in a variety of projects within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and beyond. Split provides picturesque and inspiring backdrops for a wide variety of activities. You will have the opportunity to present your national customs, traditions, and songs; to participate in cultural and culinary workshops; to demonstrate your talents; to discuss different topics and cultures; and also to get to know Croatian culture and thus learn the Croatian language better!

CROATIAN LANGUAGE AND LATIN SCRIPT EXAM
I took the basic Croatian course during my Erasmus in Split, and at first I was a bit scared since it was my first approach to a Slavic language. Thanks to my professor’s well-structured course and always interesting materials, managed to make us learn very good basics of Croatian in half a year. I was really surprised by the fact that I actually learned it, but the course was super interesting and engaging.
The Center for Croatian Studies Abroad offers an excellent opportunity to everyone willing to pick up a new language and have an easier time integrating into engrossing Croatian society. Though by the time I joined the lectures I had already mastered four languages, I was astonished beyond all measure by the incredible professionalism and unmatched enthusiasm of my teacher who seamlessly combined listening, speaking, reading, and writing exercises together with fascinating activities to keep all her students invested and entertained. If you are interested in Croatian language studies, CEHAS should be your first choice.
Last summer, my friends and I decided to enroll in the summer school program offered at the Filozofski Fakultet in Split. Their program caught our attention because it offered an intensive language program based on our proficiency level and included various excursions to get to know different aspects of Croatian culture and invited us to explore an island off the coast of Split. This comprehensive program surpassed our expectations! The language professors were excellent, in addition to having a passion for teaching, they were genuinely interested in our language learning journey and met us where we were. The material, the lesson structure, and our professor’s great expertise and passion for teaching made our experience very unique and enjoyable! If we had the chance to reenroll in the course, we would love to join the summer school again!
It’s not just about learning a new language, and it’s not just because Split is a beautiful city—it’s the combination of everything that makes the experience unforgettable.
The land of my grandparents, the study group, the teachers, the Faculty of Humanities, the culture, and the food. Little by little, you start to understand the passing conversations you hear on the streets, and you gradually begin to feel like you belong.
I’ve had a wonderful time in Split also thanks to the Croatian language course. Despite me being a native speaker of Slovak, which is quite similar to Croatian, I was not able to understand the language very well. But thanks to the intensive course with a great professor, now I am able to understand my classmates, neighbours and all people I meet! We do lots of fun activities in a friendly atmosphere. I would definitely recommend incoming Erasmus+ students to at least try learning this beautiful language and see its loveliness for themselves!
